  • Matt's UE diary

I'm comforted to find this forum. I feel so alone and unable to cope with the financial mess I am in.

I had a good job and a regular income until January 2011. I had a very large amount of unsecured credit, originally at low interest rates. My credit record had been perfect and I had planned to increase my mortgage to wrap it all up at an affordable manner. Unfortunately, without realising it I had been developing an incurable and degenerative illness for some years. My ability to do my job and to manage my affairs deteriorated dramatically over time. By the time I was diagnosed with my illness in January 2011 I was already in a financial mess and struggling to manage payments. Interests rates were escalated to horrific levels and I missed payments with increasing frequency.

Following diagnosis, I went on long term sick leave. I spent 2 months in a psychiatric hospital as I struggled to cope with the news of my illness and went into meltdown. I went some time without any income and was totally unable to manage my affairs, not even able to open my post for months on end.

I still have great difficulties nlp managing my affairs, but am finally getting a grip in where I am up to. I am horrified at the thousands of pounds of interest racked up on cards not used for years, and at what I see as unfair and oppressive interest rate escalation,

In my next post, I will set out the figures claimed from me.

When Gold isn't enough, there is SA Gold! New to the forum and find the UE route a bit scary? Take a look at my diary here and judge for yourself. I am now saving the money each month that was making little difference to the balance and not a bit of difference to my credit file as a result of finding AAD.

Hi Matt. Sorry to hear about your health problems.

Welcome to AAD and well done on setting your diary out so well

I would suggest using different colours for letters sent and letters received...it makes it so much easier to see what's been happening further down the line.

So, mbna card 3 is the only one you have received a cca for? Email it to Niddy, putting your user name in the subject line of the email.

You don't need to do anything about the others until you hear from them. When you do hear anything, just post and let us know.

                              Hi Matt,

I would like to add my welcome to AAD.

Like many of us here you will have been fearing what lays ahead for you when debts begin to overwhelm you and begin to take preference over everything else in your life, but please be re-assured there is a way back, and most importantly on your terms not some bullying creditor who has absolutely no regard for you're personal welfare.

I arrived here over 3 years ago with £130K of unsecured debt,I dared not think further than the next day and feared the postman arriving with the next barrage of threats, or a knock on the door.

But 3 years on I'm still battling the threats which are now a fraction of when I started my journey, and although the war isn't yet won,I have won a few battles along the way, and for the most part now have little to fear from the few threats that remain.

If you have not already done so, please pop over to the unenforceable page and take a look at my "One Year On" thread, you will read my story and stories of many others. I hope it gives you a little comfort to know you are not alone,I promise you there is light at the end of the tunnel.

                              Good Luck Matt
